Tim Jones, writing in the Concord (NH) Monitor on 17 August 2007 describes the joys of section hiking the Appalachian Trail under the headline "
Going to pieces; Long trails can be conquered one small step at a time". One would suppose that many people, having heard of the Appalachian Trail, might not think it would be 'okay' to hike it a week at a time. If so, Jones's article explains how many people do just that, piecing together a 2,000 mile hike over many years.
As Jones says:
"So how about it? Have you ever taken your first steps on a very long journey? So what if you don't have the time to do it all at once. Cut that big journey into bite-sized pieces and savor it slowly. You'll still get there one step at a time.
"Life isn't a spectator sport. Get out and enjoy!"
