At a web site called TriCities.com (which is operated by Media General's Interactive Media Division (IMD) in partnership with WJHL-TV and the Bristol Herald Courier ... all down there in the Tennessee-Virginia border region), there's a 14 March 2007 article by the Bristol Herald Courier's reporter Debra McCown headlined simply "Trail trek."
McCown writes about the plans for the Clinch Mountain Trail, a planned 22 mile trail which will run through a big piece of land saved from developers by the Nature Conservancy. The Conservancy calls the property the Brumley Mountain Preserve.
Toward the end of the article there's this: "In the future, the trail may connect with the Appalachian Trail at Burke’s Garden in Tazewell County – a suggestion of the late Charles Kennedy, who lived atop the ridge and was instrumental in saving the mountain from development."
