Disabled former AT hiker in NY Times
From a New York Times 7 January 2007 article by Lisa Chamberlain (in the Real Estate Section) - the article talks about architectural modifications designed to ease the day-to-day life of folks with various disabilities. The lead off paragraph talks about Sharon M. Brown "who had once hiked 100 miles of the Appalachian Trail." Brown was hit by a drunk driver 6 years ago. Now, in her St. Louis, MO apartment, the article says, "living independently is more important than having hiked on the Appalachian Trail. 'Being able to take care of yourself — you don’t appreciate that until you’re told you can no longer do it,' she said." Bless you, Ms. Brown.
